JRM Compnay Overview

The JRM Group is a limited company wholly-owned by British entrepreneur James Rumsey. The Group has an extensive investment portfolio with holdings and funds secured outside of motorsport.

Although the name is relatively new in the automotive performance industry, the history behind JRM goes back nearly two decades. Towards the end of 2008 James Rumsey purchased Chesterfield-based ADR Motorsport, the acquisition including the company’s assets, good will and, most importantly, its highly skilled technical staff.

During the nineties ADR built and prepared a variety of race and rally cars for various championships, as well as providing on-event support. These included front-running one-make saloons such as Peugeots and Vauxhalls – up to British Touring Car Championship level - plus single-seaters from Formula Ford to Formula Renault and Formula 3.

In the 2000s, as the customer-base changed, the company’s commercial focus and engineering emphasis moved towards rallying, primarily in the construction, preparation and development of Group N Mitsubishis. In 2004, the company’s reputation in the sport and its association with the Japanese brand, in both domestic and overseas markets, saw ADR contracted by Mitsubishi Motors UK to run its works rally team.

The project culminated with back-to-back victories in the British Rally Championship with the team securing the Manufacturer’s and Driver’s titles in both 2007 and 2008.

Well before the acquisition of ADR, James Rumsey was himself involved in several motorsport campaigns. He commissioned a number of motorsport projects with a team of top level technicians - some of which pushed the boundaries of engineering. One such assignment was the creation of a 1500 bhp Mitsubishi drag-car designed to break the world record for a four-wheel-drive vehicle over a standing quarter-mile.

More recently, JRM opened a purpose-built, state-of-the-art, 50 000 square-feet motorsport technical centre in Rye, East Sussex, offering a complete range of design and engineering services – including engine, transmission and chassis development, full car builds, team management and on-event technical support.

In the summer of 2009, the group expanded its portfolio by acquiring Sumo Power Ltd, a leading supplier of Japanese performance parts. The acquisition brings together Sumo Power’s unparalleled range of performance, tuning and styling products with JRM’s considerable design, engineering and technical services.

Expansion is also planned for the motorsport facility in Chesterfield, now known as JRM North, which continues to specialise in the development, preparation and assembly of race and rally cars and the provision of on-event services.

For 2010, under the banner of Sumo Power GT, JRM will be responsible for running two Nissan GTRs in the FIA GT1 World Championship, this ground-breaking and high profile campaign being carried out in association with NISMO (Nissan Motorsports International Co. Ltd.).
